Power management company Eaton today released the newest version of its Selecting Protective Devices (SPD) electrical handbook, giving the electrical industry a practical guide on product applications based on the 2014 National Electrical Code (NEC® ). The advanced technical resource from Eaton's Bussmann business has been published for more than 50 years and covers the selection and application of overcurrent protective devices, including code, standard and regulatory compliance.

"People around the country rely on this handbook as an important educational and application resource for proper NEC® -based overcurrent protection," said Tim Crnko, manager of technical sales, Eaton's Bussmann Division. "This handbook helps engineers, contractors, inspectors, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), users and electricians select the right devices for all types of applications, keeping safety and efficiency as top priorities."

The 268-page handbook has been enhanced with updated sections on Fuseology; Servicing and Maintenance; Component Protection; Industrial Control Panels; Short-Circuit Current Rating (SCCR); Selective Coordination; Electrical Safety; and Fuses for Hazardous Locations, Photovoltaic (PV) Systems and Data Centers. It also includes a Fuse Sizing Guide that considers load characteristics and NEC requirements when specifying main, feeder and branch circuit fuses.

To further demonstrate the company's commitment to innovation, customers can also find technical information on Bussmann surge protection products in the handbook. These solutions offer protection from damaging voltage surges commonly found in commercial, industrial, residential and telecom applications.

Additionally, QR codes are placed throughout the handbook to allow users to access more information and video content to help the reader grasp the critical nature of proper
overcurrent protection. By scanning the various QR codes with a smart phone device, customers can download a fault current calculator, observe current-limitation lab test demonstrations and view arc flash test videos.
