Power management company Eaton today announced that its Bussmann division is offering a new CUBEFuse Safety Switch. This heavy-duty, 600 volts alternating current /250 volts direct current safety switch utilizes finger-safe components to achieve ultimate protection for personnel and equipment. The newest solution is a direct result of synergies designed to leverage Eaton's unmatched expertise in switch technology with its Bussmann division's market-leading, patented CUBEFuse innovation.By utilizing finger-safe, time-delay or fast-acting CUBEFuses, the CUBEFuse Safety Switch creates a safer environment, helping to reduce accidental contact with live parts. In addition, these Class CF fuses help mitigate incident energy and arc flash hazards, while providing superior component protection.
"Knowing that our customers place a high importance on safety, we've developed our newest solution to focus on reducing hazards to personnel and equipment," explains Kristine Cleary, senior product manager, Eaton's Bussmann division. "The new CUBEFuse Safety Switch places safe operations at the forefront, utilizing complementary technology made possible by the unique combination of Eaton and its Bussmann business."
To achieve personnel, equipment and component protection, the new CUBEFuse Safety Switch utilizes a dual interlock feature, preventing access inside the enclosure while the switch is ON. Its visible, double-break, quick-make, quick-break rotary blade mechanism allows for visual verification of switch status, while its red flange handle shows switch status at a glance. To facilitate lockout/tagout procedures, it is capable of accommodating up to three padlocks. In addition, a lineside shield is included to help prevent contact with wires or live parts. For added safety, an optional viewing window allows for visual verification of switch status, fuse amp rating and fuse indication without opening the door.
The CUBEFuse Safety Switch is Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 98 listed to meet the most demanding application needs, and features a 200 kilo ampere short-circuit current rating. It is available up to 100 amperes with National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) 1, 3R, 12, and 4X enclosure options, making it flexible for multiple applications and environments. It is horsepower rated for use in motor applications and suitable for service entrance use with the neutral kit.
